The Samson Lightning Lightweight Line is a 16-strand line with a diameter of half an inch, but with the weight of an 11 mm (.43 inch) line. This weight reduction is made possible with the employment of Samson’s SmartCore Technology. Notwithstanding the weight reduction, strength is maintained. This is a welcome development for climbers who do not feel confident literally putting their lives on the line on anything less than a 16-strand, but could do without the attendant weight.
The secret to SmartCore Technology is in the core material of lightweight foam. This is an engineered structure that is jacketed with a thin chemical giving rigidity and firmness to it. This also gives the rope its full size and hefty grip. The covering sheath is made of polyester that resists abrasion.
You have a choice of three rope colors, all of which are extremely visible even on trees with lush leaves –bright red, green with blue specks, and blue with green specks.
The Lightning Lightweight Line weighs in at 6.2 pounds per 100 feet. Tensile strength is rated at 6,300 pounds, with an elongation of 6.1% @ 540 pounds.
